Artist and oil painter, Nia Simone, creates oil painting that tell stories of Black people in a mental and emotional capacity. We spoke with Nia about her decision to pursue painting, the musical inspirations behind her art pieces, and the intersection of art and mental health. Her piece, “Tryna Find Piece of Mind” is currently on display at Stay Gallery in Downey, and her piece “The Pinata” is currently a part of the “Irrepressible Soul” Show at Urban Arts Space in Columbus, Ohio.
